Le Pommier was conceived during a graduate school entrepreneurship class and has evolved into an actionable plan over the past two years. We’ve always felt that it would be a dream come true to buy an orchard, but, after weighing the capital requirements, we ultimately decided instead to start our own micro farm where we grow uncommon fruit and flower cultivars specifically chosen for their culinary, fragrance and cut flower potential.
Established in 2020, today our farm has more than ten different apple, pear and peach tree varieties and approximately six different lavender cultivars, with more coming in spring of 2022. We also grow a variety of seasonal flowers including dahlias, zinnias, cosmos and mums, to name a few.
We share our journey here in establishing the farm and some of the lessons we have learned along the way, including tips and tricks for successful growing. Our hope is to inspire others to grow and experiment in their own gardens. We feel that gardening connects people and that so many of life’s lessons manifest in every day growing experiences.
Environmental sustainability underpins all that we do. We cannot make the claim “organic” (because that involves its own investment and an extended process), but we never use any harmful chemicals and have adopted bee friendly growing practices.
